Muslims on the Promenade

I’m looking out to sea, thinking how lucky I am being able to sit here and have the gift of sight; something we all take for granted. The turquoise sea glittering in front of me behind the railings of St Leonards Promenade, I just love this view.

I decided to drive three miles along the cost to Bexhill to the De La Warr Pavillion. As I was driving I saw an unusual (but what I thought was a beautiful) sight. Wow! I thought, that is a great picture- I must shoot it. So I drove Victor the Volvo up onto the promenade- people were hooting their horns, but I had to capture this moment. I parked Victor on the promenade, literally grabbed my camera and I ran to shoot these Muslims running out to sea. I took about ten frames before they saw me and then I thought oh I’ll say hello and tell them how wonderful they looked in their beautiful outfits.

It turned out they were all from Bradford in Yorkshire and they had taken a month off from their work to tour the south coast of England to visit seaside towns and help young Muslims who had gone astray in their lives.

We talked for an hour about life and how wonderful life is. I could go on, they really inspired me. I then just had to pose them up in my classic Duncan happy people bending group shot. They laughed so much and I felt the blue sky and their outfits made such a beautiful picture.

I then asked them to jump onto Victor the Volvo, again they were laughing so much.

I have arranged to meet them in London next week at Buckingham Palace for a coffee… I have a picture in mind…..
