Our Wonderful Veterans

Fouryears ago I was watching the news on he annual Poppy Day Parade on T.V and as usual all you see is lots of veterans marching and then the Queen and the Prime Minister and other politicians laying wreathes and that’s all you see. I thought who are these wonderful veterans – where are the interviewers on the day. Who are these incredible people – or rather senior VIP men and women – why is there not a two-hour documentary like they cover the London Marathon. So I thought I am going to find out who they are and photograph them in a different way.

The following year on November 11th I went up to Westminster Abbey at 6am – thought where do they all meet before they march around London. I found out that hundreds of Veterans meet in Horse Guards at 8-9am, these fab veterans come from all over Britain, some are blind, deaf, in wheelchairs, some have lost limbs – from war wounds – and still they all come to this annual get together. I could not believe that no one goes to where they meet and photographs them and interviews them, so I began to shoot these wonderful characters, I like to make them laugh to bring out their character, I make them fly like planes and they love the attention.
