Pub People ... The Two Doves

I just love my local pub. It is tiny- maybe twice the size of the average lounge at home and walking into it is like walking into a room full of people you love. There are all sorts of individual characters from 16-92 years old. I have been going there frequently since I was about 14, yes 38 years!

The locals appear to be glued to the floor; they all have their regular seats or regular standing positions and rarely move a foot from what I call ‘their nest’. For years people are always there like clockwork- it’s like a routine for them (until they move house or go to heaven.)

A wonderful character moved up to heaven recently. His name was Ken. Everybody loved him, but unfortunately I had never photographed him. My pub is a place I go to escape, relax and chat- away from my camera. However, his passing away prompted me to photograph all the characters in the pub.

Over the course of two years, since the day of the smoking ban in June 2007, I have been photographing all the regulars of the Two Doves in my Duncan style photography way.

I was so happy with the pictures that I made a book for the landlord. I believe this book will become a mini heirloom in the future- capturing all the wonderful characters who just love the Two Doves, just like me.
